One of the most important things about Social Action during sophomore year is the amount of places and fields of service we get to see. Every other Wednesday I look forward to helping new people with different needs.
On November 30, I went to Food and Friends, which is an organization that delivers either pre-made meals or groceries to people with HIV/AIDS. There were four sophomores who went and we had a great time!
Before we got to work, we learned more about the organization. It was very interesting to learn that the group began in the basement of a church. Then, we worked on packaging groceries for people in the program. One of many great services that Food and Friends provides an individualized plan for each of its clients. That way, if the person’s needs change, they are given the best food for their health.
The most amazing part about Food and Friends is the amount of volunteers that work there. They come from all backgrounds and each have a different level of ability. For instance, a woman in a wheelchair was helping us put labels on the different packages of groceries that were going to be delivered. Knowing that they help in every way that they can just makes you feel so happy.
As I move along with high school and with the rest of my life, I know that the work I do in Social Action will have a big impact on the choices that I made.
