This Wednesday, October 12, Karen Godt ’62 will be coming to Stone Ridge to speak to the Upper School community for the Social Action presentation. She and her husband started a non-profit organization called Hope for Honduran Children to “help provide a nurturing environment for children ravaged by conditions of extreme poverty in Central America.”
In Honduras, 80% of the population lives in conditions of extreme poverty where there is an overwhelming lack of healthcare, drinking water, paved roads, and other essentials. The greater majority of those impoverished are children. In addition to supporting the children with food, clothing, shelter, medical care and education, the organization’s ultimate goal is to “instill the desire and provide the necessary tools for these children to become self-sufficient, caring, and responsible adults.”
The organization has started several projects in Honduras, each with a different focus, but they all work towards a common goal: to create a safe place for impoverished Honduran children to live and grow to be able to sustain themselves in the future. Check out their website to learn more about these projects.
Hope for Honduran Children benefits greatly from even the smallest donations. There are donation options to sponsor a child, feed one of their villages, or support their Clean Water Program. All of these can also be found on their website.
